Hand Lapping with Loose Grit

Lap It Up

One of the easiest ways to grind a flat surface on your glass is to hand-lap the glass surface with a loose abrasive. It's super easy and incredibly economical and efficient.

If you can't afford to move to a diamond lap grinder, using a loose-grit silicon carbide is the perfect way to grind down your surfaces with minimal fuss and effort.

Use a piece of float glass as your base and apply some loose grit silicon carbide along with a little water and a drop or two of dish soap. Move your piece in figure 8 on the surface, and it will easily grind down your glass surface.

Your float glass will eventually grind down and need to be replaced, but it's easy to use both sides of the glass as your flat area.
