Setting Up a Covington 761 Wet Belt Sander

Make Your Sander Work for You

Covington's 761 Wet Belt Sander is a fantastic piece of equipment for the small shop or teaching studio. Utilizing 3-inch x 41-1/2 inch belts, the 761 sander fits conveniently on a tabletop and makes working bevels, facets, and edge work a breeze.

The 761 may seem complicated and challenging to set up and work with daily, but we'll show you how to quickly and easily set up and use your 761 so it becomes a valuable member of your coldshop and not an ostracized outcast.

Let's Get Wet

That's precisely what we don't want to happen when hooking up water to your 761. The spray valve on the 761 utilizes a push-to-connect adaptor that makes adding your water line super simple.

Simple "push" your 1/4-inch polyethylene tubing into the round colored ring on the water manifold on top of the sander, and it will "lock" into place on the manifold. No plumbing tools are required.

If you ever need to remove your water line, simply push in on the colored ring and pull the tubing, and it will come right out of the manifold. You can use either a submersible pump (which includes tubing) or a direct connection to a water line like a hose pipe connection with a tubing kit.

Make it Tight, Keep it Straight

The routine for tension and tracking your abrasive belts is the source of most frustration on the 761 sanders.

Oddly enough, once you learn how the tension bolt and tracking knob work in unison to mount and straighten your belts, you'll be amazed that it was ever a problem. Our video above will show you how these two adjustments work to mount and center your abrasive belts quickly and easily.

Your belt sander will soon become your new best friend!
