FLEX-TEC is an optically clear, low-viscosity, shatter-resistant elastomeric polyurethane coating developed for coating glass components to prevent shattering.

It is recommended to seal glass surfaces that may shatter upon damage and thereby maintain the physical integrity of glass components should the glass itself break.

This two-part coating material is easily mixed and cured at room temperatures, developing strong, rigid bonds to glass and ceramics. This product is affected by moisture in the air; see our tips about this product below.

FLEX-TEC also offers marginal resistance to impact as the coating forms a thin, yet flexible and resilient coating.

Tips to reduce frequent bubble formation on the surface of the casting of FLEX-TEC:

*Measure by weight. The correct ratio is 65/100. Using scales measuring to the gram is the recommended way to hold ratio tolerance.

*Degass the product with a vacuum. This will remove mixed air, which could expand during the material cure.

*Clean glass with Whiting and make sure it is completely dry before pouring.

*It will help to heat the glass slightly before pouring. The use of a propane torch, lightly touching the freshly cast surface can be utilized to remove any surface bubbles. Care should be taken not to scorch the surfaces, which can result in a yellow tone where the area was scorched.

*Moisture in the area where the pour happens will affect the pour. Part A will react with moisture from the air causing the cast area to bubble over time. The longer the cure takes to set, the more time there is for moisture to cause issues. An air-conditioned and climate-controlled room will aid in reducing moisture in the area of the casting. A Dehumidifier to keep the humidity level below 50% will help, and applying heat lamps to aid the material set-time will help reduce the effect of moisture on the casting.

*You can then apply a heat lamp to the piece to help the components cure before its able to take moisture out of the air. The heat lamp should remain around 100-120 degrees Fahrenheit.
