Grinding Millefiori with a Mini Grinder

Get it Flat and Shiny

Depending on what you need from your millefiori or murrini, you may need to get a flat, polished surface after cutting or chopping them.

Our smaller tabletop grinders, like the 8-inch Mini Grinder, are an excellent option for moving those surfaces quickly and efficiently to a polished surface. The smaller grinders are inexpensive and take up little space in your shop, so they are perfect for smaller projects like this.

Which Disks Should I Use?

From most saw cuts on smaller surfaces like mille or murrini, you can quickly start with a 200 or 270-grit electroplated disk to flatten and clean up the edges on your pieces.

After the initial grind to flatten and clean up the surface, you can move to a 325-grit resin diamond pad for the pre-polish step to create a finer surface on the glass that will be easy to polish from

Then, move to an LP66 pad with cerium oxide to achieve your final polish. Remember that "less is more" when polishing with cerium. Small amounts of cerium go a long way. Please don't use too much cerium on your pad, or it will act more like a lubricant than a polish. Be patient. Polishing will take the longest of any of your steps.
