HXTAL NYL-1 is a museum quality epoxy adhesive for laminating, bonding, and repairing glass. It is a water white (optically clear) adhesive with the same index of refraction as borosilicate glass. HXTAL is extremely versatile and can be thinned down for use as a clear coat or allowed to thicken in order to mold into missing parts of glass. With a long history and excellent track record it is one of the best adhesives for bonding glass to glass and glass to other mediums.

Customer Questions
What is used to thin HXTAL so it can be used as a clear coat? Can it be used to fill pinholes on the surface of fused glass? if yes, thinned or full strength?
You can thin HXTAL with Acetone for clear coating surfaces. You can watch our video on this technique here. For filling holes, you'll want to warm up the HXTAL in ...
Is it possible to remove cured Hxtal from a glass piece and if so, how to do it safely for the glass?
The easiest way to remove a large joint of HXTAL is to heat the glass to around 500 degrees F. This will break down and burn off the HXTAL from the glass. If you don't have access to a kiln for this process or the piece is too complex, we also offer...
Hi Do I need a UV light to cure this adhesive?
No. HXTAL is an epoxy so it is a chemical reaction between the resin and hardner. No UV light required
Can hxtal be applied to a glass surface that has been mirrored? For example, to adhere a metal mount to mirrored glass.
Yes, but the weak spot of the joint will be the mirroring on the glass and not the HXTAL. The HXTAL will bond to the mirroring but the mirroring may shed from the glass over time.
how many sq. ft. will the 1 pound kit cover?
The calculations we provide are that a 6-inch x 6-inch square gluing to another 6-inch x 6-inch square will take 10-14 grams of HXTAL. The 1 lb kit has 456 grams in it, from there you can do the math to calculate for your work.
How many ounces are in the bottles, so I know whether I need to buy this or a bigger size for several simple crack repairs, some small castings for repairs, and doing some testing first with color matching and frosting/etching matching before using on the items to be repaired.
The 1/4 pound kit is 4 ounces total: 3 ounces of A and 1 ounce of B. The 1/2 pound kit is 8 ounces total: 6 ounces of A and 2 ounces of B. The 1 pound kit 16 ounces total: 12 ounces of A and 4 ounces of B.
Can I use this on the edge of functional bowls - to seal those minute holes you can get doing drop vessels. These will serve as soup bowls, I would just fill the pin holes on the edge from cutting off the rim.
HXTAL has not been tested or approved by the FDA for food safety so we can't recommend it for this type of purpose. It will seal the holes nicely, but it cannot be sold as food safe.
How long does it take to cure?
HXTAL is set in 3 days at room temperature so pieces can be moved and jigs holding pieces together can be removed. Full cure happens at 7 days at room temperature.
can hxtal be used to secure a crack in a fused glass bowl?
Yes, Hxtal will stabilize the crack and minimize its appearance.
Where can I find the HxTAL MSDS sheet?
Our SDS sheets and Instruction Sheets are all found under our Support Section. The SDS sheets are listed here.
Can Hxtal be used for casting small things? Can it react with the patina on the metal?
HXTAL can be used to cast small items, yes. You can make a mold of the missing piece and cast the HXTAL into the mold. The finished piece can then be joined to the main piece with HXTAL to complete the part. With the patina on the metal, it can possibly...
